NFP 101: Intro Session

What is an intro session?
An intro session is just that – an introductory course into a natural family planning method! An introductory session provides an overview of a particular method. The session typically provides an explanation of a woman’s cycle, human fertility, and the basics of the method.

What methods of NFP have intro sessions available?
In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, there are regular introductory sessions for the Billings Ovulation Method, Couple to Couple League, Creighton Model FertilityCare System, and the Marquette Method.

Who should attend?
The introductory session is for anyone wanting to learn about NFP – no experience or prior knowledge necessary! An intro session is for:

  • Engaged couples preparing for marriage. An NFP intro course is required for marriage prep in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Ideally, the sooner you start learning the better! We suggest attending the session 3-6 months prior to your wedding to allow time for learning and practicing the method.
  • Couples wanting to learn about and start using NFP.
  • Single women interested in fertility awareness and appreciation.
  • Women and couples already using NFP but interested in learning a different method.

Who teaches the intro sessions?
Intro sessions are taught by a certified provider for the specific method.

Where are intro sessions held?
Depending on the method, intro classes are held both virtual and in person at local hospitals and parishes.

How long are the intro sessions?
Sessions are typically 1 to 1.5 hours long.
